Dear Families/Whānau
We trust you have all enjoyed the long beautiful summer we have had.
We are listing below some important dates for this year:
-
Wednesday 16th June 2010 Client/Family Midwinter Christmas lunch
-
October 4th – 10th Mental Health Awareness Week
-
Wednesday 8th December 2010 Client/Family Christmas Party
It was nice to see you all at our annual Client/Family/Whānau Christmas party last year. We hope you all enjoyed the Christmas Carols which the clients sang. Helen Whittaker and Phil Walker had spent a lot of time with the choir and the clients really enjoyed learning the carols. We also had the clients make the Christmas decorations and the centre pieces for the tables. These were all hand made by the clients at their arts and crafts afternoons.
In our last newsletter for 2009 we mentioned that some of the clients were going to the “Out of Africa” circus in Devonport. Those that went all really enjoyed themselves.
A number of clients went to the Kumeu A & H Show early in March. They enjoyed looking at all the animals and watching the wood chopping events.
We have had a client move from the Goodwood Park Lodge site into our supported landlord service. He is doing very well so far and is enjoying being more independent.
At the beginning of March, two of our residents decided to have a celebration to celebrate their life together at Goodwood Park. As both these particular clients have been extremely unwell recently, everyone, families, staff, management, residents and Hospice, all got behind this occasion and made it a wonderful day for them. The sun shone, the food was wonderful, the top lounge looked amazing all pink and white and most of all the two clients looked absolutely beautiful in their celebratory outfits.
You will notice we have finally begun the painting of the exterior of the Lodge building. We hope you all like the new colour scheme. It certainly has given the Lodge a fresher look.
We will be undergoing a certification audit in August this year. This has been set down for the week beginning the 16th of August 2010.
We are currently rewriting our Business and Strategic Plans. We welcome any comments or suggestions you may like to add. Please contact Debbie Wood on 412 2702 or by email dwood@goodwood.org.nz
Kelston Services
Unfortunately Neil Bayley has resigned from his position as rehab coach to take up employment with the Mason Clinic. Neil will be greatly missed by both the clients and staff. We have been fortunate enough to be able to release Philip Walker from Goodwood Park Lodge to take over from Neil at Kelston. We are sure the clients will enjoy having Philip there.
We have also just received Kathy Clough’s resignation this week. Due to family commitments in Australia, Kathy has found it necessary to spend some of her time in Australia as well as here in New Zealand. Even though Kathy has resigned from her position as Team Leader at Kelston she will remain on as a casual employee and will work casually throughout all our facilities. We wish Kathy well with her adventures across the Tasman.
There is another camp on this weekend so we look forward to hearing the stories and hopefully getting lots of photographs of the clients time there.
Pooks Road
As you will remember, one of our clients was going to Australia to spend time with his family over the summer break. He had a wonderful time and is hoping to go again in the near future.
We have had a new staff member start at Pooks Road. Rebecca Williams will be working two afternoons per week. Please do not hesitate to call in and meet her if you are passing.
We would like to remind you that you are able to receive these newsletters on line if you so wish. Please give Tracey a call on 412 7373 or by email tracey@goodwood.org.nz if you would like to take advantage of this.
If you have had some dealings with a particular staff member and feel they deserve some recognition for their work with your family member, please do not hesitate to give Debbie Wood a call on 412 7202 or by email dwood@goodwood.org.nz. We have an employee of the month award which is given out at the monthly staff meeting. This award is only presented if we feel there is a staff member who has worked above and beyond the call of duty. Any feedback you may have is greatly appreciated.
